A major theme of The Loop is the – so called - elite’s willingness to sacrifice the poor for their own betterment. Those who crave power are those who deserve it the least, they are often corruptible and morally flatlining. Human behaviour is predictable, history repeats itself. It may seem paradoxical for a novel set in the far future, but when researching The Loop, I spent more time looking backwards than I did looking forward. The inspiration behind my novel - The Loop - came from many different places, but a major driving force was fear of the future and of the dangers of technology. The second is greed, which could lead to dystopian society where the rich get richer, there are no opportunities for the poor, the corrupt become bulletproof, and totalitarianism becomes inexorable.ĭriven by capitalism, avarice, and power, this dystopian future is winning the race and becoming less theoretical and more inevitable day by day.
The first is virtuousness, which could lead to a utopian society where a person’s value is not determined by their wealth, where technology is used to advance medical science and to increase global awareness.
